Summer Safety
Getting out in nature for a nice walk or hike is a great way to engage your dog’s mind and release physical energy. Preparing dog’s paw pads for any terrain is crucial and finding a balm to coat their pads is a great way to help protect them against hot grounds or any rough substrate. Puppy shoes are also an option to keep paws clean and safe. Please note that no matter the safety measure, if the ground is too hot, (you can check by placing your hand or bare foot on the ground and holding for 7-10 seconds) you should move your dog to a safe area.
Bugs! Bugs are a part of nature that some love and others not so much. No matter what your feelings are, it is important to keep our dogs safe from bugs that cause harm. Keeping your dog up to date on medicines and treatments that protect against heartworm, fleas, and ticks are measures that should be taken with your veterinarian. Giving your dog a thorough check for any crawlers after coming in from outside is great habit to establish as well.
